The West Peoria Jamboree Committee announces the events of the 24th Annual Jamboree on Saturday, June 6th.  The day starts with the 7:00 Jamboree Run & Walk.  From 1:00 – 5:00 PM, a blood drive will be held in the basement of the Franciscan Center.  4:00 – 7:00 PM is scheduled for the Scout Carnival with games and prizes for participants.  Madison 221 will perform from 6:00 until 10:00 PM.  Madison 221 plays a wide range of music from country to rock that spans five decades of music.  Join your neighbors, friends and family at the Franciscan Center grounds for the food, music, family fun, games and drinks that are available there.  You may wish to bring lawn chairs to better enjoy the event.  This is an ongoing event that continues to grow each year and is hosted by West Peoria organizations and governments.

The community of West Peoria, Troop & Pack 11 and the West Peoria Lions Club extend an invitation to join the 4th of July Parade and Flag Raising celebration.  This special day brings a feeling of community togetherness and heartfelt patriotism that truly touches the spirit.  We are quite proud of coordinating the longest-running 4th of July parade in Central Illinois and will be honored if you and/or your organization join us.

The 40th annual parade steps off at 10:00 AM on the morning of the 4th.  Line-up begins at 8:30 AM at the corner of Rohmann and Sterling Avenues.  A parade information center will be located on the corner of  Rohmann and Sterling.  When the parade steps off, it will travel Sterling to Moss, to Waverly, left to Rohmann where it turns and continues right onto Sterling again to conclude at the Franciscan Recreation Complex at the intersection of Sterling and Heading.  At the end of the parade, people will gather for the Flag Raising Ceremony at the community flag pole located at the West Peoria War Veterans Memorial at the park.  This is a route change from years past.  Feel free to call Mark at 472-4258 or e-mail him at mwrhel@comcast.net with any questions.

Applications for participation in the parade can be picked up at City Hall, Haddad's West Peoria Market or by contacting Mark Wrhel at 472-4258 or e-mail mwrhel@comcast.net This event has grown every year and the sponsors are always looking for a few volunteers to help with the parade.  If you have interest in helping with this year’s parade, please contact Mark Wrhel at any of his contact media listed.  This year we will be most fortunate to have the Marching Band from Clonmel, Ireland (Peoria’s sister city) participate in our parade.  The band started by the town of Clonmel 40 years ago has won international awards for their performances.  There are approximately 135 individuals coming including band members (ages 13-22) and chaperones.  They are being sponsored by the Clonmel Sister City organization and will perform in concert on July 3rd at the Glen Oak band shell as well as march in our parade.

The West Peoria Lions Club will present all 106 members and 29 adults traveling with the band the club pin denoting the July 4th Parade.  They are on sale to the public for only $5 each which will help offset the cost of the135 pins that will be presented to band members and adults. Pins are available at Haddad’s Market.

State Representative Jehan Gordon’s traveling office hours include two hours the first Friday of each month from 9:00 – 11:00 AM at West Peoria City Hall.  Representative Gordon will have a staff member there to listen to concerns and questions from her constituents in the area.

New Residents may pick up a Welcome Packet at City Hall on Mondays thru Fridays between 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

“Plant Pride…Not Litter” signs are available at City Hall.  House Numbers for the rear of your house are also available.  These numbers are helpful in emergency situations, ambulance and/or fire calls.

The census is coming in 2010.  Please make sure to complete the paperwork when it comes to your home. The census count means more federal and state tax dollars for the City of West Peoria.

Spring is here and summer is around the corner making it time to start cleaning up your yard. Here are some guidelines for keeping your neighborhood clean.  Residents are responsible for maintaining a clean area from the middle of their streets to the middle of their allies.  Landscape waste pickup is included in your Waste Management bill and is picked up every Friday at the curb. Be sure to check your section of the alleyway for branches, weeds, trash etc.  In order for lawn waste to be picked up, it must be kept separate from other trash and in proper lawn waste bags or containers marked for landscape waste.  Limbs must be cut into lengths no longer than five feet and bundled with twine or rope for removal.  It is the resident's responsibility to keep their section of the alley free of trash, their grass mowed and weeds trimmed at all times. Garbage must be kept in a garbage can with a tight-fitting lid. Plastic bags are not allowed to replace trash containers, or for lawn waste use.  There must be enough garbage cans/lids for all trash on the property. Trash on the ground must be cleaned up as soon as possible to prevent rodent problems.  Please make sure to clean up after your animals.  Animal waste attracts rats and other rodents.
