MINUTES PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE WEST PEORIA CITY HALL 2506 W. ROHMANN AVENUE WEST PEORIA, ILLINOIS, 61604 WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2011, 5:30 PM
1. CALL TO ORDER – The meeting was called to order by Chair Dwyer at 5:30 PM.
2. ROLL CALL – Members present were: Chair Dwyer, Alderwoman Thomas and Alderman O’Neill. Also present: Mayor Dillon, Economic Development Coordinator Gene Pratt, Code Enforcement Officer Bill O’Neill, Dave Schaab of Waste Management, Jeff Reagan and residents Jim & Carolyn McCarter.
3. ADDITIONS TO OR DELETIONS FROM THE AGENDA – None.
4. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE REGULAR MEETING – 10/19/2011 – It was moved by Alderwoman Thomas and seconded by Alderman O’Neill and unanimously carried to approve the minutes.
5. REVIEW OF MONTHLY FINANCIAL REPORT – Report was reviewed and accepted as presented.
6. PUBLIC COMMENT – Dave Schaab of Waste Management spoke about a change in pick up days for some customers. Jim & Carolyn McCarter Asked about the problem property on Edna Court. The owner has received a registered letter about the problems and Code Officer O’Neill is keeping an eye on it.
7. VICIOUS DOGS ISSUE – Mr. Pratt stated that he is still waiting to hear from Lauren Malmberg.
8. LEGAL ACTION / NUISANCE PROPERTIES – Mr. Pratt stated that were judgements entered for both the 2120 W. Callender Avenue and the 110 S. Cedar Avenue properties. City Attorney Bill Connor suggested a waiting period of 30 days before demolition begins, in case there are any appeals. He also suggested that they be boarded up.
9. REVIEW OF CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER’S REPORT – No report. This was covered in item # 8
10. ANNEXATION UPDATE – Mr. Pratt said that there is nothing new to report.
11. CITY ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT – City Administrator John Carlson was not in attendance. No report. a. GOALS
12. PUBLIC COMMENT – Jim McCarter spoke about another problem property on Edna Court. In the past a water pipe had broken and now there is mold growing inside. Jeff Reagan asked about evaluating the need for stop or yield signs at Kenwood Avenue & Ardmore Avenue at Avon Curve. There was also discussion of using Peoria County’s Traffic Count/Speed Recording sign again to track how fast drivers are going on Rohmann Avenue near the school. He also brought up the Children at Play sign on Kenwood Avenue that a resident has requested be moved.
