Transportation Committee

The Transportation Committee meets on the second  Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm.

The Transportation Committee is responsible for issues regarding alleys, bridges, curbs, dry wells, gutters,  operations of the Street Department, public utilities, sanitation, sidewalks, storm sewers, and streets.


WEST PEORIA COMMITTEE GOALS FOR 2008

TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE

1.   Continue new sidewalk program and persist with ongoing sidewalk repairs.

2.   Pursue a comprehensive drainage improvement project on Market Street.

3.   Pursue storm sewer improvement projects as needed.

4.   Complete Richmond Ave improvements in FY 2009. 

5.   Continue to pursue and oversee Sterling Ave project in preparation to receive PPUATS funds in 2013.

6.   Pursue projects to continually improve roads and alleys throughout the City.

7.   Work with Finance Committee and investigate possibilities where TIF funds can be used to support public infrastructure projects.

LAND USE COMMITTEE

1.   Continue to revisit Property Maintenance Code and amend when/if necessary.

2.   Periodically oversee rental property registration system

3.   Review City Code book ordinances pertaining to Land Use and pursue amendments where needed.

4.   Investigate City procedures for when demolition occurs in West Peoria.

FINANCE COMMITTEE

1.   Pursue a fiscally prudent policy of overall spending of revenues by the City of West Peoria and make sound investment decisions.

2.   Explore and utilize appropriate methods of maintaining and/or increasing revenue.

3.   Establish short-term and long-term plan to utilize TIF funds for redevelopment.
a) Commercial Renovation Programs
b) Commercial New Construction and Expansion Program
c) Residential Rehabilitation Program

4.   Receive a “clean” audit report.

5.   Research funding and grant-making opportunities.

6.   Review and continually refine:
a) Permit fee schedule and fine schedule     
b) Personnel Manual / Salary Scales
c) Service Contracts
d) Franchise Fees

The Finance Committee meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 5:30 p.m.

The Finance Committee is responsible for issues regarding appropriations, banking, budgeting, franchise agreements, insurance, personnel, most grant requests, and tax levies.

The Land Use Committee meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 6:30 pm.

The Land Use Committee is responsible for issues regarding annexation, community and economic development, comprehensive planning, meeting facilities, planning and zoning.

The Public Safety Committee meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 5:30 pm.

The Public Safety Committee is responsible for issues regarding animal control services, code enforcement, emergency medical services, fire protection services, nuisances, police services, public health, solid waste management, and traffic control.

GOALS FOR 2008

PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE

1.   Review City Code sections pertaining to Public Safety and pursue revisions as needed to promote a better quality of life for West Peoria residents.

2.   Work towards carbon monoxide alarms in every home as the new law requires; and pursue CPR training sessions for residents.

3.   Investigate possibilities for universal curbside garbage pick-up in West Peoria.

4.   Pursue a plan to deal with crime in West Peoria. 
a) A comprehensive crime prevention plan for West Peoria should involve collaboration with the City of Peoria, the Neighborhood Watch Group and the Crime Prevention Committee of the WP Residents’ Association.
